Advanced Security and Defence Studies
Advanced Security and Defence Studies were established in 2012. They have an interagency (interdepartmental) character and represent the highest level of a special career development programme for senior officers and generals of the Serbian Armed Forces and civil servants from the state administration system, i.e. elements of the national security system of the Republic of Serbia.
The goal of the Advanced Security and Defence Studies is to educate and prepare students from the Republic of Serbia and partner countries to assume high responsibilities in national security systems. The focus is on training students for multidisciplinary analysis of the contemporary security environment, assessment of long-term political and security trends, development of elements of the national security system and cooperation with other national security systems at the regional and global level.
The career development programme of the Advanced Security and Defence Studies includes thematic content grouped into four teaching areas: 1) Strategic environment, 2) Security and defence, 3) Management of the national security system and 4) Leadership at the strategic level. The basic teaching units are delivered by the renowned professors of the Universities in Belgrade and Novi Sad, as well as the University of Defence. In teaching, a problem-based approach is applied, with the recognition of the possibility of strengthening and further development of the security system and making suggestions for improving its functioning.
During the studies, lectures, seminars and special forms of teaching are organised in which, in addition to university professors, high government officials, as well as diplomatic representatives of other countries, participate. A special part of the career development includes presentations by the highest officials of the Republic of Serbia and other countries, domestic and foreign experts.
In addition to the regular teaching, which is generally done on the premises of the School of National Defence, lectures by the ambassadors of the permanent members of the UN Security Council and major powers, as well as the heads of diplomatic missions of important international organisations accredited in the Republic of Serbia, are also held with the students.
Study visits to state institutions of the Republic of Serbia, commands and units of the Serbian Armed Forces, economic entities important for national security, as well as study trips abroad in order to become familiar with the elements and systems of security and defence of other countries and international organisations, are a crucial prerequisite for the successful completion of this career development programme.
All students of the Advanced Security and Defence Studies, during their training, work on individual papers - parts of the final paper - the study on a defined and approved topic. Individual papers are orally presented to senior managers of the security and defence system of the Republic of Serbia at the end of the Advanced Security and Defence Studies.
The School of National Defence - "Vojvoda Radomir Putnik" of the University of Defence is in charge of the implementation of the Advanced Security and Defence Studies.
The Head of the Advanced Security and Defence Studies is Colonel Branko Mišić.
