Department of Operational



At the Higher Military Academy, after its formation on 1st October 1948, the basic subjects in the curriculum for the education of students in the school year 1948/49 were operations and tactics. A department was organised for each subject, so the Department of Operational Art was formed for teaching Operations. In the school year 1948/49, the subject Operations began to be studied at the Higher Military Academy, and it was called the Course on Operations.
 
The Department of Operations achieves and improves cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, the Police Academy, the Faculty of Security and other institutions of interest to the Department.
 
In the organisation and delivery of classes from the core subjects, the Department expands and systematises the existing and influences the acquisition of new knowledge, skills and habits of cadets, participants and students through:
 
а) Familiarisation with:
  • the theoretical foundations of operations as a science of defence and the theoretical foundations of military operations;
  • the contemporary operational environment and characteristics of modern military operations and their influence on the development of military organisation for the execution of missions and tasks;
  • characteristics, tendencies and specifics of military operations of foreign armed forces.
 
b) Expanding the knowledge:
  • in the field of operations theory and the application of operational art;
  • about the possibilities and principles of using own forces, armed forces of foreign countries and   military alliances;
  • about the characteristics and tendencies of the development of military operations;
  • about making decisions when designing operations at different performance levels;
  • about the improvement of skills in planning, preparation and execution of commander's reconnaissance;
  • about new doctrines and concepts of warfare.
 
c) Training for:
  • identifying, defining, studying and understanding of operational problems and solving them independently and/or in a team with a critical, creative and systemic approach;
  • efficient work on planning, preparation and execution of military operations;
  • development of operational documents in the operational planning process.
 
 
The Department of Operations is a sub-unit within the School of National Defence - "Vojvoda Radomir Putnik".
 
The Head of The Department of Operations is Colonel Dejan Ranđelović, Professor of Military Skills.
